should use the ‘‘alertness approach’’ when dealing with subordinates.
In order to be alert, you
must use the right amount of control and encouragement for each of your
subordinate.
Control is telling what to
do, showing them how to do it, and making sure that the work is done.
Encouragement is motivating,
listening to, and running interference so subordinate can do what they are
expected to do.
